Black Genuine Soot Ink 702 Black
Worthy of
our art, we have made an Ottoman soot ink composed of water, soot, and
gum arabic, pounded for hours. In its flow, its blackness, and its performance
on the muraqqa, it has turned out to be an ink of fine art quality. We present
it to the appreciation of all our fellow artists...
Why
should you use the soot ink we produce?
Inks all
over the world are made with the same pigments; however, what determines the
type of an ink is the binder added to it (plant-based binders such as gum
arabic / acrylic binders / animal-based binders). For example:
1. In Japanese ink, animal gelatin is used as the binder, and it is very glossy. It was made for writing with the traditional pointed brush of Asian countries and is suited to the Chinese and Japanese alphabets.
2. Schmincke-style inks, on the other
hand, are made with acrylic chemical binders. In particular, a high amount of
chemicals is mixed into them so that they can be sprayed through the fine,
millimetric nozzle of an airbrush gun, and they are absolutely unsuitable for
practicing our art.
3. In soot ink, our Ottoman ancestors
used gum arabic as the binder, and there is a wisdom behind this. Apart from
our traditional soot ink, it is the mixture of water, soot, and gum arabic that
allows the delicate and geometric details of the letters to be written in the
sharpest way. But among the binders we have listed, gum arabic is the one that
mixes with water and soot with the most difficulty and needs to be pounded for
the longest time.
After the
Ottoman period, no quality soot ink could be produced in Turkey. For our fellow
artists, we have produced for you a deep matte black soot ink that is the most
homogeneous, of fine art quality, and pounded for hours
